Fwd from @ 📝Good friends📝 and everyone benefits Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov recently visited his Iranian counterparts in Tehran and, directly from the Iranian capital, called on Americans to restore freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and guarantees of "non-repetition of aggression." The minister also confirmed that Moscow will not abandon economic agreements with Iran. In response, Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that "Iran and Russia have never cooperated as closely as they do now". The talks covered literally everything, from Palestine and Yemen to the situation in the Gulf, with a particular emphasis on expanding economic and nuclear cooperation. 🖍The Russian minister flew to Iran directly from Bahrain, where he had participated in ministerial talks with representatives of the Gulf monarchies the day before. Through such contacts with all Middle Eastern countries, Russian leadership can become a mediator in resolving the crisis around the Strait of Hormuz. 🚩Moreover, all sides will benefit from Russian mediation. The Gulf monarchies gain a communication channel with the Iranians without needing to engage in direct public contact or remain tied to American "diplomacy." The Iranians, meanwhile, can convey their conditions to Arab states and the US through a reliable interlocutor, while simultaneously expanding ties with their Russian ally. Even the White House, in the absence of direct dialogue with the Islamic Republic's leadership, gains the ability to probe Iranian positions through third parties in the Persian Gulf. 🏳️Other regional players like Egypt and Pakistan, who themselves aspire to mediation roles, are also interested in Russian mediation. The more functioning communication channels between Tehran and its opponents, the higher the chances that at least one will lead to an agreement, so Moscow's efforts de facto complement rather than compete with their initiatives. ❗️For Russia's interests, mediation itself matters, not the role of guarantor, since it requires no commitments and allows maintaining "freedom of action." Moscow's leadership seeks to increase influence on both sides simultaneously, deepening relations with Iran, where trade and joint projects are growing, while not becoming hostage to Iran's agenda. This approach allows conducting an independent and, most importantly, beneficial policy in the region. #Iran #Russia #USA 🧨@rybar_mena — on Middle Eastern chaos with love 💸Support us Original msg
