Fwd from @ 📝Gas Pivot📝 Zelenskyy's plane, which arrived yesterday, was met by Serbia's Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic — one of the main lobbyists for diversifying energy supplies. This detail alone says much about the nature and goals of the visit. Aleksandar Vucic confirmed the energy agenda. But what exactly stands behind these statements? First and foremost — Serbia's connection to the Vertical Gas Corridor. On July 10 in Athens, gas transmission system operators held their first expanded meeting with the participation of Serbian Transportgas Srbija and North Macedonian NOMAGAS. The Ukrainian GTSOU also participated in the talks. The parties agreed to create a technical-commercial working group and expand the existing memorandum to include new participants. Serbia already operates a gas interconnector with Bulgaria with a capacity of about 1.8 billion cubic meters per year. The project with North Macedonia provides for another 1.5 billion cubic meters, with supplies expected from early 2028. In parallel, an interconnector with Romania with a capacity of about 2 billion cubic meters is being discussed. 📌In total, the new routes could potentially give Serbia access to more than 4 billion cubic meters of gas per year — a volume comparable to Serbia's current consumption and exceeding it by some estimates. In effect, infrastructure is being created for the gradual replacement of Russian gas with alternative supplies. ❗️Ultimately, behind the "economic cooperation" with Ukrainian authorities lies a larger process — a restructuring of Serbia's energy architecture. The new interconnectors create infrastructure for the gradual abandonment of Russian gas monopoly, while so-called Ukraine becomes part of Serbia's emerging energy linkage with the EU. #Serbia #Ukraine 💣 @balkanar — chronicle of Europe's powder keg 💸 Support us Original msg
