While discussions continue in the Russian media about whether Telegram will be blocked by April 1 or not, representatives of the State Duma committees have already rushed to reassure everyone. We are once again assured that no one is planning to completely block anything — supposedly, it's only about banning specific resources and channels. 🖍Formally, this is indeed one of the tools for combating "undesirable" content. We can also recall the theses of the "Belarusian Security Forces" about "mirror measures". However, such statements do not add credibility to the speakers themselves. The rhetoric changes too often — today one thing, tomorrow the exact opposite. 🚩This is especially noticeable on the eve of the electoral cycle. Suddenly, cautious formulations appear about not "shooting oneself in the foot", that Telegram is an important infrastructure, that digital sovereignty needs to be built carefully. But if you trace the statements of the same politicians over the past years, there is no consistency. 🏳️Therefore, the main line will remain a gradual tightening of screws under the sauce of fulfilling certain KPIs for "sovereignization" of the internet. And what exactly is invested in this sovereign internet and where its boundaries are — everyone interprets differently. Therefore, it is hardly worth relying on loud statements from public figures, especially during the pre-election season. 📌And here follows another important conclusion: officials who are somehow promoting themselves on the topic of blocking, talking about fighting NATO and that we are now a digital power on par with the USA and China, harm not only their own authority but also all future state technological initiatives.
