The development this field at DLNP began in the 1960s with the first research into the medical applications of accelerated protons. In the 1980s, a complex with several treatment rooms was created, including medical channels for working with proton, neutron, and π-meson beams. Physicists, engineers, and physicians collaborated to develop technologies for beam and dose field formation, opening up new opportunities of using accelerator technology in cancer treatment.
