______ 📸 30 January 1973 marked commissioning of MT-17 Microtron Electron Accelerator The facility was built at the Laboratory of Nuclear Reactions at JINR with the support of Georgy Flerov and the participation of employees of the Institute for Physical Problems of the USSR Academy of Sciences. A microtron is a cyclic accelerator where electrons repeatedly pass through a resonator, gaining energy in each orbit, after which the beam is directed to the experimental channel of choice. The FLNR microtrons were developed gradually, starting with the MT-17, which was then upgraded to the MT-22 and later to the MT-25. The microtron is used to study photonuclear reactions, conduct gamma and neutron activation analysis, irradiate biological samples, refine isotope production technologies, and perform radiation resistance testing. #jinr_archive
